"The nation state passed its use by date.
It got replaced before it was too late.”
The Internet changed everything. It meant everything can be organised without centralised power. It enabled people to work together without competing power structures getting in the way, so worldwide issues like war, hunger, poverty, pollution and deforestation could be solved. Since we got the technology to decentralise everything, it was only a matter of time.
A totally centralised one world government may also be able to solve these problems, but with the way how power corrupts, one can only imagine the atrocities that would be committed in the name of the greater good.
We are one people living on one planet. Places with forests that all life needs could no longer justify deforestation by saying. 'You cleared your forests so we can too.'
Powerful people did try to stop freedom, but when they realised that the people were fighting not only for their lives but for all life on earth while they were only fighting for power. They knew they were fighting a losing battle. Fortunately before WW3 really got on the way.
Together we have all the answers. For decentralisation to work everyone needs to be connected. Internet cables were built into the cycleways. People built their houses close by not just for convenience but to reduce the amount of cable needed.
Some people objected to connecting isolated villages, but not many from the isolated villages themselves, who could see that connecting will save their way of life by giving them a voice. Also denying the world their knowledge is a crime against the world and denying their children knowledge of the world is a crime against the future. The past they so carefully protected became available for all, without the risk of exploitation, so no longer needed to be hidden.
